Our Philosophy group was launched during the summer of 2009, with the intention of meeting once a month to:
(a) discuss various philosophical ideas and their relevance to current political, social and ethical issues, and
(b) learn how to recognise and construct strong philosophical arguments, and how to challenge and expose weaker ones.
At our early meetings we considered some of the ethical issues surrounding the MPs' expenses scandal, the implications of Darwinism as regards human morality, and whether compulsory voting can be justified despite its effects on personal freedom, so we have already grappled with some fairly meaty matters and are looking forward to exploring many more in the future.
