FRENCH

Cheddar French

The Cheddar French Group was formed early in 1999. We meet for two hours, twice a month. Our tutor, Barbara, has stimulated our interest by working through a variety of text books, magazines, topics and ideas.  On occasions we have corresponded with friends of Barbara and her husband in France and even enjoyed "tutorials" with their delightful young French granddaughter.

Other highlights have included mid-summer and pre-Christmas lunches and on one memorable week-end a visit to Lille by Eurostar.

At present we are trying to use what we have learnt to date by concentrating on everyday conversation.

Les Hésitants

This is an 'intermediate French' group, comprising about eight members, who meet in a member's house every fortnight.  The group has been in existence for five years now and we feel that we have made significant progress.

During the time that we have been together we have used several methods of study.  We began by using published texts from the Open University, BBC etc. but now find our material from several sources.  We try to put the emphasis on spoken French but having no francophone among us it is difficult to maintain a good accent but we do our best.  Conversation is backed up by use of journals, magazines, video and audio tapes.

C’était comme ça – vraiment énorme!
