Cheddar Valley U3A has a number of Language Groups for people who wish to improve their language skills. The languages represented are French, German, Italian and Spanish.
French Conversation Group meets twice-a-month, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday mornings of the month.
French Les Francophiles Group meets fortnightly on Thursday mornings.
French Les Hesitants Group meets fortnightly on Tuesday mornings.
French Les Debutantes Group meets twice-a-month on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.
French Simple Group meets twice-a-month on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.
German Group (not beginners) meets 2 or 3 times a month in Cheddar Library on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday mornings of the month from 10am to 12noon.
We consolidate our knowledge of German through practice on verb forms, cases, agreements and vocabulary, in order to improve our spoken ability. We regularly read articles and book extracts. Recently we have been reading the German translation of Bill Bryson’s "Notes from a Small Island”.
Italian Self-Help Group now meets every Tuesday afternoon, as we found meeting two Tuesdays a month wasn't sufficient to build up our Italian skills. We are working with the BBC Talk Italian 2 course, as we are all at post-beginner level and using the Oxford Italian Grammar and Verbs as back-up. The group currently has six members, and meets at a member's home in Cocklake.
Spanish Charmalos Espanol Group meets twice-a-month on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings of the month. The group meets in members' homes, and so the group is limited to 8 members. The group currently has a short waiting list.
